There was a break from school coming up and Bryce and I wanted somewhere to go.
We landed on Mexico, New York because we found an affordable AirBnb and there was a cool waterfall we could go see.
We packed our bags for a long weekend get-away and we were on our way.
On the three hour drive we talked and listened to music.
I remember a lot of Morgan Wallen and early 2000’s throwbacks playing.
Once we arrived at our AirBnb it was a little late into the day so we got situated, made something to eat with the food we took from our houses and settled in for some Mario Kart and a Kayne West documentary, Jeen-yuhs.
The next day we woke up slowly, had breakfast, got ready and found our way to Salmon River Falls.
The only thing I knew about this waterfall was that Bryce showed me a video the night before of a Youtuber named Chase on “Adrenaline Addiction,” who jumped off of it.
It is 110 feet tall.
We pulled up to the parking lot, bundled up with our jackets and hats, and began the brief walk through the woods to the falls.
We made our way to a lookout above and off to the side of the waterfall, took in the views, took a couple pictures and scouted out a way to get closer.
Not long after, and through an icicle covered walkway we found a wooden staircase that brought us down to the top of Salmon River Falls.
We began exploring the mostly dried-out landing that the top of the falls was.
We got as close to the cliff of the waterfall as we could without going past the DO NOT CROSS THIS LINE sign and admired the scenery.
Staring off the top of the waterfall all I could think about was that Youtuber Chase jumping off right where we were standing and my stomach was during flips just thinking about the fall.
We spent some time walking around on top until Bryce suggested we find out how to get to the bottom of it.
Determined, we go back up the wooden stairs and take the trail back where we came from.
It didn’t take long and Bryce found a gate that led to the steepest and rockiest “trail” I have ever seen.
After some convincing on Bryce’s part we head down to the base of the waterfall.
Fairly quickly into our trek we can't help but notice that huge chunks of icicles are melting just enough in the April weather to fall off and down the so-called trail we were walking.
“Just jump over them if they are falling towards you,” Bryce reassures.
Okay.
Roughly 10 or 15 minutes later, thankfully not needing to jump over three foot chunks of ice hurtling towards us, we found ourselves staring up at the 110 foot cliff in awe.
Again, taking some pictures for the memories then wasting no time in finding a spot to hang my hammock to enjoy the views for a while.
We chilled in the hammock, played music through a speaker, explored a little more and enjoyed each other’s company for an hour or so.
Once we became too cold and too hungry we made our way back up the steep climb to the car and talked about what we wanted to eat as we kept our eyes and ears peeled for more falling ice.
We got to the car and blasted the heat while looking up the closest Chick-Fil-A.
There wasn't one nearby so we went to the grocery store and bought our own chicken.
When we got back to our AirBnb Bryce made us dinner of pan seared chicken, seasoned with anything we could find in the cabinets, broccoli and Kraft mac and cheese while we listened to (more) Morgan Wallen and Hardy sing in the background.
We ate together as we reminisced on the day we just shared.
After dinner, we played some Uno and then watched the second episode of the three part Jeen-yuhs documentary we started the night before.
It was getting late but we wanted to push through and watch Quentin Tarantino’s Django after.
That lasted maybe 15 minutes until we couldn’t keep our eyes open anymore and surrendered to bed for the night.
The next morning we ate breakfast, tidied up the place and were on our way back home.
Salmon River Falls was a great little get-away together.
Seeing a huge waterfall has never and will never disappoint.
